My name is Erin McCarthy Shaw, and I specialize in working with children, teens, and adults whose cognitive depth, intensity, or insight creates complex learning and developmental profiles. Many of the individuals I see are gifted or twice-exceptional (2e), reflecting the coexistence of advanced cognitive strengths with neurodevelopmental, sensory, or learning vulnerabilities.
In these profiles, strengths and challenges often mask each other, and development may be asynchronous across cognitive, emotional, sensory, and executive-function domains.
These patterns may also overlap with ADHD, learning differences, autistic traits, or internalizing conditions such as anxiety or OCD, further complicating how strengths and challenges are understood.

I provide comprehensive, strength-based assessments for gifted and twice-exceptional individuals — including those whose abilities and struggles have been misunderstood, masked, or mislabeled across the lifespan.

Assessments may include a full written report with integrated findings and recommendations, or a focused diagnostic memorandum when the primary need is diagnostic clarification.
Services are available in person in Westport, CT, New Canaan, CT, and New York City (Manhattan—Flatiron, Spring 2026), or remotely using secure, validated tools.
